Learn Real Analysis On Your Own!
- Get ready to cry
- Cry
- Cry some more
- Question why you gotta prove the thing
- Decide you’re gonna do it anyway
- Get somewhere with it
- Run out of energy (too many quantifiers)
- Take a break
- Have an epiphany, scribble something down
- Try it out
- Get excited because it actually works (kinda)
- Discover there’s a detail you might have missed.
- Curse yourself
- Dig out your textbook again and read through some proofs to see how that sort of thing was handled
- Let epsilon be greater than zero/delta greater than zero/there be a limit… Etc.
- Oh shit that’s what you forgot
- Make sure there was no fuckery with a negative sign
- You’re good
- Write out a draft of the proof!
- Oh shit, you could have done it better!
- Write a new proof halfway
- Stumble into a problem
- Get stumped and take another break
- Oh, that was silly, you had it.
- Finish the new proof
- It’s been two days and you finally went through one theorem
