I dont get why intimidation is a charisma roll
a seven foot ripped dude Glaring at me and not speaking would make me a thousand times more nervous than some twink bard in tights making a witty insult
I’m pretty sure barbarians are able to use strength instead of charisma for intimidation rolls in 5e, but that might just be my home brew rules and I’ve forgotten
i think thats homebrew? ik matt mercer mentioned he had a similar rule and when he brought it up it seemed like he was clarifying it because it wasnt an actual rule. I havent played much 5e though so I could be wrong
Pathfinder has a feat that lets u add str as well as cha. Thw thing thats confusing about charisma is that its not just how clever or quick witted you are. Its force or will, your ability to impose your desires on the world. A high CHA low STR intimidate isnt some clever insults. Its a small, thin man staring at you with such determination that he exudes a palpable aura of dread. Like yea a twink insulting you isnt scary but a tiny gnome looking you dead in the eyes so hard youre certain that they could kill u in am instant is
I mean yeah I get that, being able to manipulate people can make you very intimidating but I feel the baseline shouldnt Just be charisma, or they should be separated into two different things. An alligator has the charisma of a rock but id be way v intimidated if one hissed at me and threatened to charge
theres a diff between intelligent manipulation to make someone scared and just holding up and huge sword and being like ‘i will use this if i have to’
so yeah splitting it up actually makes more sense to me, depending on the situation. and I get there are feats or extra rules that can shift things around but I just think it should be a thing from the beginning on being able to use str for intimidation if the situation makes more sense (ie a guy flexing and lifting a huge weapon has Nothing to do with charisma but the baseline is still to roll charisma for that)
like physical intimidation vs mental, because those are two very different things that get lumped together
